The term stainless steel covers a group of metals with different properties. One of these special properties is heat resistance, which distinguishes 1.4713 sheet, for example. This is of course also the reason why many of our customers choose this alloy.

What is stainless steel 1.4713?
The 1.4713 material is also known under the designation X10CrAl7. It is a corrosion- and heat-resistant stainless steel composed of the following components: the carbon content may be a maximum of 0.12%, plus 6.0-8.0% chromium, 0.5-1.0% aluminium, 0.5-1.0% silicon, a maximum of 1.0% manganese, a maximum of 0.04% phosphorus and no more than 0.15% sulphur.
This ferritic chromium steel is distinguished by its corrosion resistance. It is particularly resistant to oxidising gases containing sulphur and to carburisation. The scaling resistance and corrosion resistance of 1.4713 are maintained up to a temperature of 800 degrees Celsius.
If you assess the mechanical properties of 1.4713 sheet, they would be classified as medium. Optimum mechanical properties for processing are found in the temperature range between 750 and 800 degrees Celsius. It is also important that the heated workpiece is cooled in air or with water cooling. 1.4713 is magnetisable, so stainless steel 1.4713 can also be used magnetically.
Important for processing
Heat-resistant 1.4713 sheets are well suited to forging. For an optimum result, the material must be brought into the temperature range between 950 and 1,050 degrees Celsius. Rapid cooling is then required to preserve the forged shape, and heat treatment is also advisable. The machinability of 1.4713 is also to be rated as good.
If you want to weld 1.4713 sheet, particular care is required. There is a certain heat sensitivity, which is why only low heat input and energy density should be used when welding. Even from a local temperature of 950 degrees Celsius, coarse grain formation and consequently embrittlement can occur.
In practice, this means that preheating should generally be avoided up to a material thickness of 3 mm. For workpieces thicker than 3 mm, care must be taken during heating and interpass holding to stay within the temperature range of 200-300 degrees Celsius.
Applications for stainless steel 1.4713
Thanks to its heat resistance, sheet 1.4713 has established itself as the standard material for furnace construction. In addition to its corrosion resistance, this is due to its stability in the temperature range up to 800 degrees Celsius. In furnace construction, the material is used for the production of tubes and sheet supports. It is also widely used in apparatus engineering, for example for the production of annealing hoods, air preheaters and cover sheets. Drums, load-bearing parts and rails in industrial production are also frequently made of stainless 1.4713 sheet.
A special sheet for special requirements
Due to its outstanding material properties, stainless steel 1.4713 is in high demand. Nevertheless, it is not a material you can source from DIY stores or building material dealers like timber or sand-lime brick. So if you want to use heat-resistant sheet such as 1.4713, you face the task of actually obtaining this material.
Ideally, you buy sheets straight away in the size you need - that saves you a work step. It is by no means easy to bring metal and sheet to the right dimensions without professional tools. In addition to local metalworking companies, you can also turn to us to order made-to-measure sheets.

Cutting is the core of our company. We use various processes for cutting sheets in different sizes - including our large cut-to-length line and plasma cutters. All processes have one thing in common: they are computer-controlled and guarantee a result accurate to the millimetre, for example through laser cutting of stainless steel.
Our customers have different requirements and wishes regarding the surface finish of their sheets. That is why we created our surface treatment department, which can process sheet 1.4713 and other stainless alloys. You can choose between the following processes: foil protection, pickling and dry grinding. All of these treatments are carried out by experienced staff.
If you ever need a sheet bent into shape, we will be happy to take care of that too. Our forming department has professional equipment that produces an absolutely uniform edge for L-profiles and angle sheets. We can also produce multiple-bend sheets for you. You are probably still wondering how long it takes us to send you a made-to-measure sheet. You can rest assured: we meet our self-imposed target of producing all orders within 48 hours of receipt in the vast majority of cases. This is possible because we hold a stock of a good 2,000 tonnes of stainless steel at our central production site near Magdeburg.
You will never have to wait more than a few working days for our individually produced sheets. That probably makes us considerably faster than if you set out to find a local source of supply for stainless steel 1.4713.
