There are all sorts of occasions when you need sheet metal made to measure. While every hobbyist is practised in handling and cutting wood, very few have experience in cutting sheet metal. So that you can push ahead with your project, you do not have to take on the challenge of cutting sheet metal to size yourself.
We are at your side as a reliable partner. With us, you get a large selection of different sheets, and you can have any sheet cut to size. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our company and our services around sheet metal.
Having sheet metal cut: trust the professionals
Alongside the lack of experience in sheet metal cutting, most people also lack the right tools for it. Depending on how thick the sheet you want to bring to size is, different tools are used. For thinner sheets, tin snips are sufficient - but they require far more force than paper scissors, which can come at the expense of accuracy.
Thicker sheets can be brought to the right dimensions with a hacksaw or an angle grinder. When cutting sheet metal to size, it must also be borne in mind that every tool has an individual kerf width.
If stainless steel is to be cut, you must also make sure to use clean tools. This means the saw blade or cutting disc must not previously have been used on ordinary steel. If you ignore this, rust particles can cause the stainless steel to rust as well. When in doubt, it is better to use a new cutting tool if you cannot be sure.
What speaks against cutting sheets yourself?
Before taking on the task of cutting sheet metal yourself, you should be aware of the risks. Firstly, the edges of all sheets are always very sharp and can cut you. Depending on the cutting method used, the sheets can also become very hot during cutting - another source of danger.
Due to lack of experience, there is a relatively high risk that you will not achieve the desired result. Cutting an exact edge with tin snips takes a great deal of skill. An angle grinder throws sparks when used for cutting sheet metal, which impairs your view of the cutting edge and can affect the result.
The costs must not be ignored either. As a private customer, you pay significantly higher prices than a large company that buys many tonnes of sheet a year. Should your DIY cutting attempt fail, the cost of the sheet is incurred again - so the total costs of a project can quickly rise noticeably.
Where can you have sheet metal cut?
Fortunately, there are several ways to commission professional sheet metal cutting. One option is local metalworking companies. They should have both the experience for cutting to size and the necessary machines.
However, their offer is primarily aimed at key accounts, and they are generally not keen to produce a single sheet for a private individual. This can result in an unusually long phase of quotation and order processing. Nor will they calculate tightly - they will charge well for a rather unwelcome small order.
The alternative to the local supplier is ordering sheet metal cutting online. Even if it sounds surprising at first that you can order made-to-measure sheets on the internet, it has several advantages for the customer. Because we have specialised in producing sheets even in small quantities, we make no distinction between a large industrial order and an order from a private individual.
You do not have to travel to our production site but can order conveniently from home - naturally including expert advice from our sales team.
ESC Burg - experts in stainless steel
Our company history goes back to 1908, when the Berlin-Burger Eisenbahn was founded. After conversion into a rolling mill in the 1930s, the decisive transformation into our present-day company took place in the 1990s: after the rolling mill closed, the Edelstahl Service Center was born.
Since 2013 we have been a family-run, medium-sized company. Through constant investment and automation of our production, we can offer individual stainless steel products even in small quantities. Thanks to our large warehouse with sheets in various alloys and our central location in Germany, we can deliver nationwide within a few days.
Which dimensions and sheets do we offer?
We always follow our customers' wishes and needs. That is why we do not offer prefabricated sheets but produce every sheet to customer order. We offer not only made-to-measure sheet cutting but many other services around sheet metal. Our goal is for you to only have to take care of the installation while we send you a ready-to-use sheet.
Nevertheless, there are some sheets that our customers order particularly frequently. These include, for example, stainless steel sheets in the common thicknesses from 2 to 10 mm.
Because with us you can not only have sheets cut but also formed, we offer our customers individual sheet metal solutions.
Buying cut sheet metal: how does the ordering process work?
If you are interested in our offer and want to order sheet metal cutting online, please contact our sales team. Direct contact with our customers is very important to us, because we do not sell off-the-shelf products. In a short, completely non-binding consultation, we can determine together with you which type of stainless steel is right for your project. This matters to us, because the last thing we want is for you to choose an unsuitable sheet and need a replacement again shortly afterwards.
We can quote you the price for your online sheet metal cutting during the consultation itself - no customer has to wait for a written quotation with us. If you then decide to order straight away, your job goes directly into production. As a rule, we produce all individual sheets within 48 hours and hand them over for dispatch. So the time factor plays no role in the decision for professional sheet metal cutting either. From us, you receive a perfectly cut sheet that you can take straight out of the packaging and install.
